ER Visit

It takes everything I have to stand

Ever since my port surgery and my second round of chemo, I have been experiencing pressure in my chest and heavier heartbeats. I didn’t think too much of it until I had a couple in one day. I called the chemo hotline to inform them and they recommend I go to the ER to make sure everything is ok. Thank goodness for neighbors. Maggie drove me to OSU while Milan stayed with the Goyers. I didn’t need to worry, I knew he would be well taken care of. At the time I felt weak, scared, and a lack of control. It is a hard feeling when your aren’t able to take care of your own kid and need to rely on others. But I guess that is what neighbors and community are for. My neighbors Lori and Maggie reassured me I was doing the right thing and am strong.

It was a sad situation to witness at the ER. There were so many people waiting to be seen. Some for as long as 7 hours. This thought terrifies me considering it was around 6pm when we arrived.

In comparison to others I didn’t have to wait that long possibly 2-3 hours. I think they move immune compromised And cancer patients to the top of the list.

I stayed one night and got every test under the sun. My room had no windows so I wasn’t sure what time of day it was. They did a couple EKG tests which looked good. The only thing is the adhesive left my skin irritated.

They did an echocardiogram which is like an ultrasound for your heart. This also came back good as well.

The last test they did was a PT scan which is like a huge washing machine they place you in. they give you this contrast solution before hand which makes you feel warm all over and like you have to pee. I could tell the baby also felt the contrast as well. They were moving and kicking like a baby ninja.

After meeting with medical oncologists, cardiologists and ER doctors they decided my heart was strong. I have a slightly dilated aortic root, which I have probably had my whole life. But they want to keep a close watch on because the chemo I am on is toxic for your heart. When asked what they thought was causing the heart issues they said most likely pregnancy and the chemo is making my heart work harder. Thank god my heart is healthy!
